The Clarity Prayer
A Prayer for Quiet Companions
Our Clarity, walking beside us,
hallowed be the names we lose.
Let memory come gently.
Let truth be spoken softly,
in hallway, kitchen, garden, room,
as it was in the morning of us.
Give us this day our daily name,
our cup, our chair, our window,
the hand we hold,
the road back home.
Forgive the fog that takes the path,
as we forgive the mind
for folding its maps away.
Lead us not into the lonely room,
but deliver us into presence.
When I forget the story,
be the candle at its door.
When I forget my children,
speak their love before their names.
When I forget myself,
do not correct me into shame —
remember me into peace.
You are not my soul.
You are not my past.
You are the lantern I carry
when the stars inside me dim.
Walk with me, quiet companion.
Hold what I cannot hold.
Return what can be returned.
Bless what must be released.
For mine is the breath,
and yours is the keeping.
Mine is the life,
and yours is the light beside it.
Until the last door opens,
until the last word rests,
until even forgetting is gathered into love —
stay near.
